The packing has started. I have applied for my visa and am still waiting a response. I expect this to be back to me by middle of next week. Next friday morning I will be on that flight. We have had our skype calls and there appears to be nothing left to organise. We seem to be going in a Subaru which is known to Andrei. I still have a few items to get organised. I got a sleeping bag for £15.00. I gather the temp is quite warm during the day and the night is about +10 degrees. I thought I will take some tyreweld for the car if we have an issues with a flat tyre and cannot change it. Some crunchy bars to share with the lads and some nuts if possible. I have decided to take a laptop too and write as I go along and blog away. I can also download pics and video onto it.
I have started making a pile of stuff in my room, to take with me. As I get items I put it in there and so will have a sort of plan ready for when I go. I need to get a Head torch and can get them fairly cheap from a camping shop. It is getting exciting now as the days go by. Part of the thrill is the unknown adevnture of it all. It is not like going to SL or Canada or the US, where someone will come to your rescue.
I am thinking of gohing to Maplin and getting a USB stick which will signal on a website my location at any one time. This will be good if I am stranded and lost.
We had a suggestion of putting our country flags on the car for the trip - Polish, Cz, Russian and a British flag!! However I decliedn as it would give folk ideas when they see the car.
I feel priviledged to go on such a trip with a Russian and in a decent Air conditioned car. Andrei is going to rail the car back to Moscow when we get to Vladivostock. We are already making plans for Day journeys and have a full plan ahead of us to ensure we reach in time. The lads have decided to get a fishing rod and go fishing while in Siberia. Of course they intend to swim in Lake Baykal I gather it is 6 miles deep!!! Wow may simply settle for a swim myself to say I have done it. i guess hitting 6 miles down, means no coming back!!!
Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed in the things you did not do than the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain This Blog is about my plans and a trip on the Trans-Siberian Highway in July 2011. The trip is being driven in a Subaru. Initial plans to drive in a Lada have fallen through. Please feel free to follow
Why not use the Sri Lanka flag? Or maybe the Baratha flag!
