Lake Baykal

The team has reached the shores of Lake Baykal. We will be spending 2 nights on the shores of lake Baykal camping.

Some facts about lake Baykal.

North to south is 600 km.
East to west is 79km
Max depth is 1.6 kilometres.
Circumference is 2100 km
Altitude is 456 metres above sea level
It holds 20 percent of the worlds fresh water.
It is fed by 300 rivers.
With only one exit river.
If you consider river Selenga which falls into Baykal and Angara which flows out of Baykal as one river system, it will be the longest river in the world.
It has several species unique only to this area in the world.
Mir 1 and Mir2 submarines are being tested on the lake. The lake is 25 to 30 millions years old..
