Saturday Morning on Lake Baykal

It is 11.30 am on Saturday exactly 2 weeks since we set off from Moscow. We have left our spot on Lake Baykal and are heading on towards Vlad.

We enjoyed lake Baykal. Lots of smoked fish was consumed for meals all freshly smoked. The fish was warm and very tasty.

Lake Baykal has 2000 plus endemic species found here. It is vast and has some interesting facts. If you shut off all the rivers that feed it and have the one exit river it has it will take 380 years to empty..
We had a nice relaxing time by the lake. Slept, sun bathed. Swam in the lake and cooked. There are plenty of other families around too. One chap bought us over sausages and food last night. He chatted and was wanting to be friendly. He them photos with us and his family. People are friendly around these parts.

Being the start of the weekend the youngsters had descended too. There was music from cars and a nice party atmosphere for all in little parts along the shore. People gather wood and light fires. Kids go with parents and gather wild strawberries and berries.

We broke up at 11pm to get some sleep. It was a nice party atmosphere at the time. Music playing and, football by the little kids.

It was a full moon and it was most perfect. Our bottle of whiskey is over. Andrei had a bottle of Russian Vodka to ensure the evening went smooth. Of course if Mojmir is about we have beer, ice cream and chocolates. I tried to coax him to eat fruit and stay healthy but he claims he is allergic to eating fruits! What an excuse to stick to beer and ice creams. Beer is sold in the shops here from pumps. So you take your bottle and go to the shop. They fill the bottle for you and then charge you for it. So every super market had a table with a few pumps. Of course you also get the regular canned and bottles stuff too. But none of the usual western brands we are used too.
For those of you planning this drive - it is a must stop.

We left Baykal after a small breakfast. Piotr our resident driver is at the wheel. I have as usual been taught by Mojmir and had to learn more alphabets because I missed two yesterday !!! Apparently Russian is easy if you know the Greek alphabets. Alpha, Beta etc.
We are heading for Vladivostok with and aim to be there on Thursday. We intend to hand the car to the shippers on Friday to be sent back.
